Jane Lambourne's Storytelling
Jane started storytelling while working for a community wildlife project and found it to be a fun and effective way to communicate with a wide variety of people. She has been storytelling for the last ten years. Whilst Jane enjoys telling stories purely for entertainment, she specialises in bringing together in a creative way...
  • a broad understanding of wildlife & countryside
  • a wealth of experience in environmental education
  • and storytelling skills
..to provide exciting, entertaining events that can also help deliver messages and promote connection to a place.

Workshops...

Jane was keen to bring together her storytelling skills with her interest in basketmaking and willow work. With this in mind she has developed workshops in which participants enjoy hearing a tale and having a go at working with willow. During the workshops, participants create a piece of art connected to the story they have just heard.

Weaving with Words and Willow
Hear the tale of a prince who learns the craft of basketmaking to satisfy his sensibly down-to-earth sweetheart. Much later; captured by a dark knight, he uses these skills to smuggle a secret message to his queen...

After enjoying Jane's specially created story, participants work with willow to make a miniature hurdle panel, incorporating fabrics and their own secret messages into the weave. The technique is quick to learn, yet produces a pleasing and individual result.

Story hoops
Jane tells one of her favourite tales to participants who are challenged to recreate the story
as a story hoop. This involves using willow to create a hoop which is then decorated with fabrics and threads. Stories are depicted using pictures or symbols on fabric or card, and laced into the hoop.

Suitable for adults and children of 8 years and above.
If time allows,
workshops can be extended to enable participants to tell or create their own stories.

What people said about Jane's work...

"Jane's stories along the Greensand Ridge Walk were a fantastic and different way to explain the history along the walk and  kept everyone, including the adults, enthralled."
Ivel & Ouse Countryside Project - Launch of Greensand Ridge Walk

"We would particularly like to thank you for telling us hilarious and exciting stories...  ..and helping us to make up our own wonderful tales. It was especially funny when you made an extremely loud sea-lion noise and it echoed around the Pitt Rivers Museum"
Pupil, Chepping View Primary School, High Wycombe - Pitt Rivers Museum project

"It was a fantastic and magical event that had everyone captivated!"

The Greensand Trust - Masquerade, Ampthill Park

"Sat in an "enchanted wood" constructed on our village hall stage; the storyteller held children and adults alike enthralled at her tales. We had planned for a story every half hour to new groups of listeners each time. However, so popular was she that children wouldn't leave the wood and the storyteller was kept constantly busy. In this "high tech" world our children inhabit, it is wonderful that they can still enjoy the same as our late ancestors did, sitting with rapt attention to the story teller.
Jane is certainly the first person we asked back for our next year's village hall fayre."
Harlington Village Hall Committee

"We would like you to come along again as the Storyteller for Aragon Day as you did such so splendidly in July 2005".
Aragon Day Committee, Ampthill
