Wassledine flowerWeaving with Words and Willow

This workshop brings together Jane's storytelling skills with her interest in basket making and willow work.

Hear the tale of a prince who learns the craft of basket making to satisfy his sensibly
down-to-earth sweetheart. Much later; captured by a dark knight, he uses these skills to smuggle a secret message to his queen...

After enjoying Jane's specially created story, participants work with willow to make a miniature hurdle panel, incorporating fabrics and their own secret messages into the weave. The technique is quick to learn, yet produces a pleasing and individual result.

Jane tells one of her favourite tales to participants who are then challenged to recreate the story
in a visual format as a story hoop, collage, story stick or mini theatre.

The picture shows a story hoop illustrating 'Simon & the Fish' made by Year 6 pupils.
Story hoops are made from willow decorated with fabrics and threads with a picture painted or drawn onto fabric or card laced into the hoop. Click on the image to enlarge.

Jane can also deliver a variety of workshop activities for adults or children to encourage participants to have a go at telling stories themselves.
