Willow & hazel
products
|
| As
well as
growing excellent hazel and willow for sale, we make high quality
products using our own willow and hazel. We are pleased to be
working
with Martin Hazell, a very talented,
Hertfordshire based basketmaker, who
currently makes all of our formal baskets.
Martin has been making baskets for over ten years and specialises in traditional, English, practical baskets. He teaches basketry in Watford and makes fabulous baskets using our willow (and others) which we sell through a variety of outlets. We also produce our own range of products - pea sticks, bean poles, hurdles and willow balls and bowls that we sell at farmers' markets and elsewhere. To see other willow products Click here. Please note - prices of willow and hazel poles are as collected from Gravenhurst. We have not been able to find a courier to carry these items at a reasonable rate. We can deliver, but this is only really viable for large orders, or if you are pretty close to us- please do contact us to chat about what you are after. We have sold all our hazel suitable for bean poles for spring 2009. Orders for next year welcome! |

Although
we always keep a stock of products, if we don't have what you need in
stock, we will be pleased to talk
to you and make exactly what you want. This bespoke service has brought
us many satisfied customers since we started trading in 2005. Take a look at our range of willow and hazel products listed below. Please bear in mind that these are representative of the products we can manufacture; it may not always be possible to reproduce exactly a particular product, perhaps because a willow variety is not currently available. However, we are very open to your contacting us and asking for a basket that's "a bit like this one, but a bit bigger and a different colour ..." Try us! | A willow ball is a stunning and really unusual decorative feature for any large room and also looks fantastic in the garden. Inside they will last for years and will benefit from an occasional soaking. As they are untreated they will last for only 3 or 4 years outside.Stand your ball on a hard surface and perhaps take it inside during the winter and it will last much longer. Grow a woody climber such as Clematis through one and as the ball disappears, the living plant takes on its shape. | Bolts of decorative willow This is how willow is traditionally supplied to basketmakers - in 'bolts' of 37" circumference at 1" above the base. Well-prepared bolts are free-standing and so beautiful that they make fabulous and very unusual household decorations. These are a bit more expensive than bolts sold to basketmakers to account for the time it takes to make them this gorgeous. |

| Hazel poles Generally thicker, stronger and more long-lasting than willow. Available in lengths from 2 - 10'. Great for bean poles, trellis or other rustic garden projects. Also brilliant material for den or bender building - if you are coming over all Ray Mears but haven't got the necessary wilderness to hack about in, these are for you. Hazel is strong and flexible, so can be bent into arches and frames to carry a tarpaulin roof - great fun! Price 7'+ poles at 3/4"-1 1/2" diameter - £1.20 each |
Willow
hurdles We make hurdles to order using our own willow. They can be one colour or incorporate bands of colour - green, yellow or red, although when dried after their first season the dramatic effect is significantly reduced. We do not treat hurdles with any preservative, so their functional life is limited to perhaps 5-8 years depending on where they are kept and how they are treated. They could be treated chemically once dry after their first summer. Hurdles need to be secured strongly as they will suffer if allowed to move in the wind. Although extremely robust when fresh, after a year they will object if treated harshly - for example being wacked by a football or climbed on. It's best to secure them with screws, through their uprights, to strong fence posts of at least 3" diameter. We can make hurdles in sizes to suit you although it's best to cover large areas with several smaller ones; apart from anything else, large ones are quite difficult to move. The prices below show common sizes - please contact us if you want something different. Prices
